“In the land of the one-eyed, the blind man is king” … this series is heavily inspired by Isabel Reitemeyer, who cut down quite quaint images of cats to furry, fluffy, eye-less creatures. Some years ago on a holiday in Cornwall, I picked up books from the 60s about cats. I wasn’t keen so much on the cats themselves, but loved the paper of the book, the saturated colours of the printing, and the period backgrounds. But when I started working on the cats with Isabel’s images on my mind, it turned out I was focussing on the eyes, or rather one eye that was to become the center of the collage. … The title, of course, is a joke.
